Hair Loss in Women
Hair loss isn't just a health issue for men. In fact, as many as two-thirds of all women may experience hair loss at some point in their lives. Hair loss in women can be emotionally difficult and many women suffer in silence or try to hide their problem with wigs, hairstyles or products that simply don't work. Fortunately, hair loss in women typically does not result in complete baldness.
Female pattern hair loss is different from male pattern hair loss. Whereas men usually lose hair at the temple, the crown and the back of the head, female pattern baldness occurs predominantly over the top and sides of the head. Another difference is that hair loss in men is generally a result of genetic predisposition and age; in women, other factors, such as hormones, medications, childbirth, etc. result in hair loss that can occur at any time.
There is evidence that a large percentage of female pattern hair loss may be linked to factors such as hormone imbalance, disease or life changes such as childbirth, diets or stress. Fpr many women, the embarrassment of hair loss means that the underlying medical problems can go undiagnosed. It is important to get a proper diagnosis from a doctor who has experience treating female pattern baldness.
